EDU 4080 6/9

Class today began with us discussing the school's professional dispositions and commitments. We then took these and developed a professional oath as a class. After that, we talked about how to write correctly. We discussed the writing process and how this might be difficult for ELL students. Then, we tried to figure out strategies we might be able to use to help these with this process.

EDU 4080 5/26

Today we spent class teaching our third and final lesson plan. I taught my lesson on the elements of a story. I incorporated the Korean culture by wearing my Korean dress and reading a Korean story. I felt that my lesson went well. I felt confidents, and everyone seemed engaged. However, I should have been more detailed in my explanation of the elements, but I was pressed for time.

My classmates gave me feedback on my teaching. They all felt that my SMART board presentation and activities were good. However, they also felt that I should have slowed down and given more detail. One person also thought that I needed to speak a little louder. I will be sure to speak up next time. Overall, I am happy with the way it went, and I will work on the areas where I need strengthening.

EDU 4080 5/19

Today, we spent the entire class teaching lesson plans. I went first and taught a lesson I had written teaching number words to Kindergarteners. I focused on the numbers 4 and 5, and I taught the words for these number in both English and Spanish.

I worked very hard on incorporating technology into my lesson. I spent a lot of time preparing a SMART board presentation. I was very pleased how it turned out. However, I feel that I may need to put more into my lesson to fill the time. It is always better to have more than you need than not enough. I also feel that I need to continue working on my voice and confidence. I sometimes get a little nervous, and my voice gets quiet.

I always enjoy the days where we get to teach in front of one another. It allows us all to give and receive constructive criticism. I know that the comments I get from my classmates are always extremely helpful, and I take them into consideration when I write my next lesson plan.

EDU 4080 5/12

We began class today by taking a mid-term exam. After that, we discussed how it was going with the Kindergarten students we are working with. Then, we spent a little bit of time doing research on the culture of our students. I am researching Puerto Rico. From what I discovered while in class, Puerto Rico sounds a beautiful place rich in culture. I look forward to learning more about it. Lastly, we had a class discussion on different theories of language acquisition and development. We all disagreed with the innatist theory.

In today's class, we discussed different programs for English language learners. There are many different programs out there, and it is important to find which ones work for which students. These programs include bilingual programs that teach in two languages (usually English and Spanish). These programs benefit both the minority and the majority. There are also pull out programs. Students in these programs spend the majority of their day in the regular classroom. They are pulled out for a short amount of time by someone who can help them in areas where they might be struggling and need extra explanation. These are just a few of the many programs outthere for ELL students.

EDU 4080 4/28

Today we each taught a lesson plan that we wrote for a Kindergarten class. My lesson was on sight words. I feel that my lesson went well. However, I feel that I might not have had enough because it went quicker than I thought. I also know that I need a lot more practice using the SMART board. I need to learn more about how to use the software as well as how to navigate the actual board.

My classmates also gave me some feedback. I always take what they say into consideration and use it to better my planning and instruction.
